Love at first sight
This is why I love Alan Rickman so much. Who else has nailed how a woman wants to be looked at by her night in shining armor? For him to either have his breath stop at the very sight of her or not deserve to live after having witnessed such a vision of loveliness? This scene is the embodiment of the Jane Austen "underdog".
