The one book I have read that honestly changed my views on society as a whole is Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange. I know that's a lot of people's answer but it's true as far as I'm concerned. Burgess didn't count on it being so popular, but that book was like looking into a crystal ball and seeing what the Earth's environment as a whole could become if there wasn't any "law and order". Only sociopaths would find such urban decay appealing. The scary part of this novel is the fact that we really do live in a society that glorifies promiscuous sex and violence. It may not be overrun by gangs of roving teenagers in a "science fiction future" just yet, but it could be if something isn't done within the low-cost urban areas of not only America, but the world.
